The journey of José Cemí: The hero’s crossing in Paradiso and Oppiano Licario.
Keywords:
Hero, Journey, Archetypes, Characters, StagesAbstract
The structure and characters of the two novels by Cuban writer José Lezama Lima, Paradiso and Oppiano Licario, present similarities with the models of archetypes and stages proposed by Joseph Campbell in The Hero with a Thousand Faces and Christopher Vogler in The Writer's Journey, known as “The Hero's Journey.” In this work, a symbolic reading is made of both novels, especially the second, associating their characters and stages with the aforementioned models of both American writers.
