Latin American Literary Project in Favor of Democracy: The Cases of Mario Benedetti, Ricardo Piglia and Mario Vargas Llosa
Keywords:
Latin American Literature, Political Compromise, Text Analysis, DemocracyAbstract
The purpose of this article is to demonstrate that there was an interest on the part of Latin American writers in portraying the different abuses of human rights from dictatorial governments. In the case of Uruguay, I will resort to the story “The Neighboring Shore” by Mario Benedetti. From Argentina, I will compare the novel Life Imprisonment by Ricardo Piglia. And, for Peru, I will use The Time of the Hero by Mario Vargas Llosa. These three referents will be essential so that the repercussions that have existed in society due to the mismanagement of the hegemonic and governmental classes can be corroborated from history and literature. In order to reach the projected conclusion, customary analyzes of fragments of the aforementioned works will be carried out, confronted with historical material and related to concomitant discourses of that time. In this way, the explicit worldview of each author worked will be obtained.
