Abstract

In recent years, there has been an exponential growth of non-fiction literature. A proof of it would be awarded literary works like El invencible verano de Liliana (Xavier Villaurrutia Award 2020) written by the Mexican Cristiana Rivera Garza, just as No contar todo (Fine Arts Award of Narrative Colima for Published Work 2019) by Emiliano Monge (this investigation was part of the bachelor’s thesis defended at the University of Guadalajara “Use of memory to construct non fictional texts. Comparison between novel No contar todo by Emiliano Monge and The invention of solitude memoir by Paul Auster), which are part of this wide genre.  In this context with an abundant non-fictional production, it is also notable that there is a concurrence on taking equivalents terms like biography, autobiography, autofiction and essay, even though they actually refer to different literary forms and possibilities. Same thing happens with their origins; they are different between each other. The research pages of this investigation pretend to learn more about the term non-fiction (from its origin, linked to New Journalism), as well as divers’ subgenres of it, in order to establish clearly their differences.
