Abstract

La Celestina, a key work of the Spanish Golden Age written by Fernando de Rojas, has exerted a lasting influence on Latin American literature, particularly on the authors of the Boom: Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortázar, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Carlos Fuentes. The thematic richness of the work, such as power, corruption, tragedy, and moral ambiguity, has been adapted and reinterpreted by these writers in their respective narratives. The objective of this article is to analyze how La Celestina influenced the most representative works of these Boom authors, exploring thematic, structural, and conceptual parallels. A bibliographic review of critical studies was conducted along with a comparative textual analysis of the main works of these authors: One Hundred Years of Solitude, Hopscotch, The Death of Artemio Cruz, and The Time of the Hero. The results show that these writers adapted elements of La Celestina, such as the manipulation of power and moral corruption, to their Latin American contexts. In conclusion, La Celestina has had a significant impact on Boom literature, demonstrating how literary traditions are reinterpreted and enriched in modern contexts.
