Abstract

This article uses the vision on the conceptual metaphor of George Lakoff and Mark Johnson in their work Metaphors we live by (1980) to carry out a search on the cognitive metaphors coined by two songs of heartbreak, one of them by the Colombian singer Shakira and the other from the Mexican Paquita la del barrio. The methodological device of Kövecses & Szabó (1996) is used in the way that Cristián Santibáñez (2009) executes it. This with the intention of outlining which of the metaphorical concepts are present in one of the most popular themes in musical art.
