In this paper, I propose to show that Dubravka Ugrešić starts an hypertextual dialogue in her novel Fox (2019) with the tale A Story About How Stories Are Composed (1926) of Boris Pilniak from whom she recovers the metaphoric tie between the fox and the writers through two attributes of the vulpine: the betrayal and the boldness. Betrayal in the meaning of scrutinizement and revelation that writers do in the lives of those who surround them. And the boldness understood as the hability of writers to express a personal history based on a web of genres and literary resources. On the other hand, Fox is also a metafictional novel in which Ugrešić reflects on how stories are written. At this point, she resorts to a variety of discursive genres —such as anecdote, story, and memoir— and adopts the symbolic meaning between the spider and the cobweb to refer to the link between the writer and his/her literary work. In this way, I notice a double link of Zorro by Dubravka Ugrešić and A Story About How Stories Are Composed by Boris Pilniak: hipertextual and metafictional.
